Domino's Irish sales are topping 2013

E-commerce and mobile deliver a strong showing for pizza company.

DOMINO’S PIZZA HAS record a 3.4 per cent increase in sales in Ireland during the first quarter of this year, the company said today in its first trading statement of 2014.

The Irish figures were accompanied by strong results in the company’s UK outlets, which posted a 10.8 per cent gain compared to the first quarter of 2013.

Overall sales across the company’s outlets in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany added up to £188.5m (€227.6m), up from £164.1m (€198.1m) for the same period in 2013.

Domino’s, which is the largest pizza delivery company in the UK, said that the strong performance was driven by the popularity of its meal deals, as well as better weather compared in the same period last year.

Online and mobile see growth

The company said a total of 69.4 per cent of sales came through its e-commerce activities, up again from 61.9 per cent the previous year. Sales from all online platforms grew by 25 per cent to £103m (€124.4). Of this, 34 per cent came through mobile devices, up from 25.2 per cent in 2013

Acting chairman Stephen Hemsley welcomed the results and said that the group had nearly completed the process of finding a new chairman.

The last time I went to get a pizza I was horrified to see drivers going into the food prep area and handeling food.
One of them took great offence when I told him I wanted the pizza replaced as I seen him picking his nose and not washing his hands after.
    Never again.

Mike, out of curiosity. The topping from the nose, was it salty or sweet on the Pizza? :-)))))
Can’t believe what you wrote… shouldn’t be that also illegal ?

…..and/or have couriers or any member of the staff different from the cook hanging around the food…

I’ve tried it a few times and although it still works out pretty well I’m missing something to get to the really manageable elastic dough I see them working with in proper pizzerias! Maybe my three attempts just weren’t enough to make me the expert I want to be!

Keep trying… keep trying.. it took me a while too, and first time I saw a dough myself I could barely walk… :-)

Problem, here in Ireland, is to grow the doguh… be conservative on using water, the air is enaugh moisty and humid itself.
Use the correct flour, a good one, possibly Manitoba or 00 Italian. Don’t use cheap stuff. And beer yeast, or at least dried yeast. Not baking powder, of course.

    Good luck! :-)

I realise it’s kind of cheating but I use the dough hook on the mixer to get a good knead – seems to make the dough more elastic and gives a better stretch. Nothing like home made pizza!

    Good to see.

When pizza takes my fancy, Dominos is my vendor of choice. I’ve never had a major problem with them.

On one rare occasion the pizza was delivered a little less hot then usual. I filled out the online survey and was immediately responded to, apologized to and given a generous discount off my next order.

Great pizza and good customer service.

(Dominos have not paid me for these words)

This will come back to haunt us in years to come as the battle against obesity worsens.

Tallaght has the busiest Dominos in the country, what can you take from that – at a guess, people in lower class areas find it easier to call Dominos rather than prepare a fresh meal, which would cost less, but which would require effort.

    Watch this space people.

Takes 10 mins to make your own.
100g of strong flour or pizza flour if you can get it.
    100ml of lukewarm water.
Add pinch salt, pinch sugar or honey, 1tsp of dried yeast.
Mix and add to flour in bowl. Add a bit more water if dry or flour if wet. Then put on table and knead for 3 mins. Let sit 1 hr in covered bowl. Done.
