The scene at the canal in Dublin last night Bob Coggins

Donegal fan drowns in Dublin's Royal Canal

The 24-year-old fell into the canal last night and was pronounced dead early this morning.

A MAN HAS died after he fell into the Royal Canal in Dublin last night.

The man’s body was recovered from the canal late last night after he fell into the water shortly before midnight at Binn’s Bridge in Phibsborough.

The 24-year-old is believed to have been a Donegal fan who had earlier been at the county’s All Ireland Senior Football semi final win over Cork at Croke Park.

He was taken from the canal after midnight and taken to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 1am.

Gardaí say they are not treating the death as suspicious and say it was a tragic incident.
