93-year-old woman who was kicked out of school finally graduates

Dorothy Liggett was surrounded by her five children at the surprise ceremony in Ohio.

IN 1942, JUST weeks from her graduation, one American women was expelled from an Ohio high school because of a rule banning married students.

Dorothy Liggett and her late husband, John Huston, had secretly gotten hitched after he was called into the US Army Air Corps during World War II.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that a superintendent from the same school presented Liggett with her graduation diploma on Wednesday as part of a surprise celebration for her 93rd birthday.

A lifelong learner, she is now nearing the end of a mission to read a biography or autobiography on every US president and president’s wife, the paper says.
