Down woman killed 'for refusing to allow daughter to marry'

The 17-year-old who appeared in court yesterday had wanted to marry Marion Graham’s daughter, 15, but had been refused.

THE TEENAGER ARRESTED in connection with the murder of two Co Down women in Turkey on Thursday had wanted to marry one of his victims’ 15-year-old daughter, it has been reported.

The Press Association cited sources who said that Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, both from Newry, had their throats slit after Graham refused to allow the teenager marry her 15-year-old daughter Shannon.

PA also said that the 17-year-old – who appeared in court yesterday in connection with the deaths, but who has not been formally charged – had confessed to the killings.

The bodies of the two women, both aged 53, were found close to a graveyard in a forest 75 miles north of Kusadasi. The Grahams owned a holiday home in the historical city of Izmir, about 50 miles north of Kusadasi.

The Irish Daily Mail’s print edition reports that the 17-year-old, named as Walter Recep ‘Alex’ Cetin, had been dating Shannon for some time but that the two had fought last week.

It quoted Shannon’s father Raymond who said Cetin had initially claimed the two women had been kidnapped, but later admitted to killing the pair and brought detectives to the area where the two bodies had been left.

Cetin’s father, and a taxi driver, were also arrested in connection with the deaths.

Shannon is being assisted by a Department of Foreign Affairs official who has travelled to Izmir from the embassy in Ankara, while her father – who is separated from the deceased woman – travels to the area this morning to collect Shannon and the two women’s remains.

Having just come back from Turkey today and hearing various people discuss this over there. The Turks are mortified as they feel this reflects badly on them.
Two things I feel about this. Watching 50 something year old divorced women flirt like drunken fools with men who crave to get into Europe is sickening. I met in 1 week.Numerous women married to these men. Convinced they loved them etc. No different from the male fools who are convinced their women in Thailand loves them.

There is a very different culture there. It is “safe” but there are areas you should be carefull going at night.Like everywhere,It is liberal but there its only liberal by Islamic standards and rape and assault on women is common. I enjoyed Turkey but have to say I would not be happy if my sister was going there without a very large bunch of friends. The men do prey on the girls and the drink is flowing and the locals in fairness are well dressed and good looking and many of the Irish girls are flattered, (Who wouldn’t be)
There’s a huge amount of male aggression and male dominance over women.

I met Irish and English women with Turkish husbands/boyfriends who had to give their facebook logins, they were only allowed take a certain amount of moeny, But they’d been told a “spiel” this is to make them safe,I felt like saying to them. Are you thick? But love is blind I suppose.

For anyone travelling to Turkey. Be carefull. There is a false sense of security and thats when your most at risk.

2 women have been murdered, and all you are interested in is getting the approval of strangers for piss-awful jokes on the internet. Congrats, what a role model you are.
