DPP to receive bank file within 24 hours

Two major files are to be sent to the DPP following an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving banks.

THE MINISTER FOR Justice has said that two files will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions within 24 hours following an investigation into some alleged financial irregularities involving financial institutions.

The first file relates to transactions involving a sum of €7.2 billion, Anglo Irish Bank, and Irish Life and Permanent, RTÉ reports.

Dermot Ahern added that the investigation involved four main suspects, and relates to market manipulation and deception.

Ahern said that the second file relates to the ‘Maple 10′ and consists of six volumes.

Speaking earlier today, Opposition party leader Enda Kenny said that he had understood the gardaí were recommending that fewer than a dozen people be prosecuted. He added that the files prepared for the DPP had, so far, run to several hundred pages.
