IF YOU’RE A fan of interesting angles, bold monochrome and modernist architecture, then take a look at this four-bedder in Co Westmeath.

This is a large glass home, created by manufacturer DaVinci Haus in the Bauhaus design, that certainly stands out in the Irish countryside. The German company designs low energy homes at its factory in Elben, and can then build them, on site, in less than a week.

Although it was built in 2007, this home had energy efficiency on the brain from the word go, so any retrofitting and upgrades probably won’t be needed. Glass walls, under floor heating, separate thermostat controls in each room as well as thermostats outdoors all contribute to its comfortable BER of C2.

With a floor area of 282 m², each space is large and airy thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. These rooms are crowned by stand-out angled beams and frames that draw the eyes up and add interest wherever you go.

From the entrance hall, you turn left into the fully fitted kitchen with a centre island unit. Another counter parallel to the island incorporates a casual place for dining while a more formal dining room table sits behind. A separate and spacious utility room sits to one end of the kitchen.

The large living room is essentially open plan but well-zoned – a contemporary fireplace splits the lounge and dining area up. Located to the back and on the ground floor, big windows let the light pour in on all sides.

The first floor is where the four large bedrooms live along with two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms share a bathroom and have access onto the balcony.

The largest bedroom is nice and private as it’s approached from a landing with a seating area. This bedroom has a big en suite, a walk-in wardrobe with a mirrored wall and also access to a balcony.

Set on an elevated site and sitting on 7.7 acres, the balconies let you take in great countryside views for miles, while shrubs and trees add definition to this property’s boundaries.

A garage and studio sits at the back of the house providing even more space for storage, cars or working from home.

If the new owner wishes to to create a slice of Germany in the Westmeath countryside by adding more homes that embrace a similar design, there’s the opportunity to buy an extra 19.49 acres of land.

From the outset, it’s clear that this isn’t a run-of-the-mill family home – especially when it comes to what we usually see here in Ireland.

Monaghanstown, Castletown-Geoghegan, Co Westmeath is on the market through Remax Team Earley. Price available upon application.
