A SWIMMING POOL in an Irish home has always been a mark of absolute luxury. Throw in a sauna and a home gym with a location just a few minutes drive from a sandy beach and it starts sounding like something in an ad for the lottery.

142 Drumnigh Wood has all of the above while taking Irish weather into account. Located in the conservatory, the pool is in a lovely space that lets you enjoy the outdoors but have a comfortable swim all year around. But, for avid swimmers who brave the cold even in winter, the sea easy to get to, too.

Now on the market for €1 million, the original house was built in 1999. An extension, which was added in 2014, seriously upped this detached home’s overall layout. A large and bright open plan kitchen and family room along with the aforementioned conservatory that connects to the home gym, brings the floor area to 299 m².

Completing the space is a shower room and sauna which is adjacent to the pool.

A smart blend of old and new means there is a more formal dining room in the original part of the house. A unique feature is the lounge upstairs. It enjoys a double aspect and views over both the front and back of the house. Two double-sized bedrooms and a family bathroom share this middle floor, too.

Climb another flight and you’ll find two more spacious double bedrooms that both have en suite bathrooms. The main bedroom also has a dressing area in the en suite and lots of light thanks to its dual aspect.

The front of this large home has plenty of space for parking and is lined with box hedging and a rail with a pedestrian gate. There’s also a handy garage for extra storage, but perhaps it could be renovated down the line.

To the back, the garden faces south-west and has raised flower beds that wrap around a neat lawn. The pretty paved patio, with pergola, is in great nick and ready for dining outdoors.

As well as the beach, the train station is also just a quick drive away making for a handy commute to the city centre.

With a BER of C1 and a host of luxury features, this is a comfortable and roomy home on the outskirts of Dublin while amenity-filled Portmarnock, Malahide and Howth villages are all quick drives away.

142 Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock, Co Dublin is on the market for €1,000,000 through Gallagher Quigley.
