Man dies following house fire in west Cork village

A 59-YEAR-OLD man has died following a house fire in Co Cork in the early hours of this morning.

The circumstances of the fire are not believed to be suspicious.

The fire broke out at a house in Drimoleague in the west of the county.

Gardaí together with the emergency services attended the blaze at the house on High Street in the village at about 12.45am.

The man was discovered on the property, but despite medical assistance was pronounced dead at the scene.

The house has been closed off pending a Garda forensic investigation concerning the circumstances that lead to the fire.
