The men were arrested as part of a major operation yesterday.

FIVE MEN ARRESTED as part of a major drug seizure yesterday have appeared in court this evening.

Gardaí arrested nine men as part of the seizures in Dublin and Meath yesterday, which saw €5.7 million of cannabis and ecstasy seized.

Gardaí also seized five handguns and a machine gun, as well as ammunition.

Gardaí searched a large number of homes, premises and vehicles as part of the sting operation, which had been planned for some time and which took place over two days.

A 45-year-old man appeared in court this morning, while another is still being questioned.

Speaking about the seizure yesterday, Detective Chief Superintendent John Mc Mahon of the Garda National Drugs Unit said

“Gardaí have today disrupted and dismantled a major gang which operated drug trafficking into Ireland. An Garda Síochána is relentless in the pursuit of drug traffickers.”
