Two arrested in Athlone after heroin found in car search

A 25-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were arrested after the heroin was discovered this morning.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested after heroin worth an estimated €75,000 was discovered during a search of a car in Athlone.

Gardaí stopped and searched a car travelling on Lyster Street shortly before 10 o’clock this morning as part of an ongoing investigation.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and is currently being held in custody at Athlone Garda station.

Shortly afterwards a 29-year-old man was arrested during a follow-up search of a house at Goldsmith View in Athlone in connection with the seizure.

Both arrestees are being held under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
