JACKIE KENNEDY, ELIZABETH Arden and Peggy Rockefeller are just some of the names connected to this absolute luxury home in Howth that overlooks Dublin Bay. Lived in by art dealers John and Gertrude Hunt for about thirty years, it’s not hard to see how they hosted such world-famous guests.

A five-bed home that has a 781 m² floor area, this immediately tells you that there is a lot more to this house than the average family home.

Dating back to the 1830s, Drumleck House is now on the market for €10,000,000.

And, it’s not just the views of Dublin Bay and access to the sea that you’re paying for. Luxury features include an indoor/outdoor pools, a tennis court and a home gym, as well as ten acres of grounds to amble around.

Unsurprisingly, the grand entrance hall really sets the tone for the rest of this house. High ceilings, a sweeping staircase, the classic tiled floor and a chandelier greet you as you walk in.

This space leads to two reception rooms that face south and access terraces through French doors. Straight away it’s evident that this is a house for entertaining in. In fact, the dining room itself can host up to 20 guests and opens to the outdoor pool terrace.

The bright kitchen with its double aspect also has garden access to the outdoor pool and a sea view. There’s also a laundry room on this floor that leads to the cellar.

Each lounge is as glamorous as the next providing ample choice when it comes to entertaining guests and making the most of the views. One of the living rooms was formerly the kitchen, which gives a good idea of how much this house was cared for and refurbished by each owner.

For anyone fully committed to working from home, there’ll be no typing from the kitchen table at Drumleck. A home office sits in each wing of the house – a large study with views of the bay and a cosier study with fabric lined walls and bespoke joinery.

Moving upstairs to the first floor, the bedrooms are split between the two wings. As you might imagine, the largest of the bedrooms includes a big dressing room and modern bathroom. And then there’s the view from the bay window – lawns, sea and mountains all at once.

There are two more spacious bedrooms with wonderful sea views to the west, and another facing east onto the garden. All the bedrooms are charming and full of character, with Victorian joinery, high ceilings and well-appointed en suites, one with a bijou slipper bath.

The luxury of space doesn’t stop at the main house. A corridor from the kitchen opens out on to a courtyard, laid in Liscannor flagstones and potted plants. A two-storey building home to more accommodation and utility spaces sits on the other side, including a gardener’s yard, a cottage and a gardener’s kitchen on a higher level of the well-designed grounds.

As well as the indoor pool that’s accessed from the kitchen, there’s an outdoor pool on the western side of the house and a fully-equipped gym.

Most of the garden designing can be attributed to the Hunts who lived here from the ’50s to the ’80s. Italian as well as English design heavily-influenced the layout and planting that surrounds this home.

In terms of location, you’d be forgiven for thinking this sprawling estate is in the depths of the countryside, yet it’s close to everything Dublin, and particularly Howth village, has to offer. And with such famous visitors raving about the house in the past, it will be interesting to see who visits – or even buys – this absolute luxury home in the future.

Drumleck House, Ceanchor Road, Howth, Dublin 13 is on the market for €10,000,000 through Gallagher Quigley.
