Dublin Bus drivers vote on new company plan

The drivers have been voting since yesterday and the result is due later today.

THE BALLOT RESULT for Dublin Bus drivers on proposals set out in a recent report on the future of the company are expected later today.

A spokesperson for SIPTU said that the bus drivers have been voting on the proposals set out in the report conducted by Noel Dowling since yesterday and said that the result of the ballot is due out this afternoon or this evening.

Strike action

Last week, Dublin Bus endorsed an independent report into Dublin Bus’ future which warned against future strike action.

The 22-page report was carried out by former union official Noel Dowling and management consultant Ultan Courtney.

Reccomendations

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions and employers body Ibec asked them to look at the Labour Court recommendations about cost-saving proposals for Dublin Bus, which have been rejected by bus workers.

Dublin Bus backed the new plan to cut costs, but approval of the new plan is being put to the bus drivers.

Last week, the author of the report said he was very worried about the situation in Dublin Bus and said he couldn’t overestimate the seriousness of the situation, adding that if the measures are not approved, “we could end up in a Dublin, without a Dublin Bus”.
