Paramedic assaulted on Dublin bus by man he was treating

The man has been arrested.

A DUBLIN FIRE Brigade paramedic was injured this morning after being assaulted by a patient.

The paramedic was called out to assist on the 41 bus on Abbey Street at around 7.40am this morning after a man became unconscious.

When the paramedic was attending to him, it is believed the man woke up and became aggressive, striking the paramedic a number of times. It is understood the paramedic sustained facial injuries.

Dublin Fire Brigade said it condemns incidents of this nature “which are totally unacceptable”.

“We will support our colleague and wish him a full and speedy recovery. Dublin Fire Brigade will also assist An Garda Síochána in any way we can.”

Gardaí confirmed that they were called to the scene and arrested the man for a public order offence and assault.

He has been taken to Store Street Garda Station, where he remains in custody.
