Dublin Fire Brigade issues warning to stay away from skip blazes after fire by O'Connell Bridge

It was set alight around 9pm this evening.

DUBLIN FIRE BRIGADE (DFB) has warned members of the public not to approach skip fires, as it deals with one just off O’Connell Street this evening.

The skip was reported to be on fire at the corner of Westmoreland Street and Aston Quay around 9pm tonight.

In a statement to TheJournal.ie this evening, a spokesperson for DFB confirmed that a unit from Tara Street was at the scene dealing with the fire.

The spokesperson added that there were a number of dangers around approaching such fires, as photographs from the scene show people gathered around.

They said: “We would ask the public to stay clear of these fires as skips often contain paints, aerosols and other potential dangers.”

Elsewhere today, units of the DFB also dealt with a car on Dublin’s M50 northbound between J7 Lucan and J6 Blanchardstown, which caused traffic tailbacks.
