Details of Dubs homecoming event announced

Dublin’s Merrion Square will be closed off tomorrow as preparations get underway to welcome Jim Gavin’s men and Sam Maguire.

AFTER SEEING OFF Mayo today, all that is left for Dublin is to celebrate a second All-Ireland championship in three years.

To do so, they will be hosted by the Lord Mayor, Oisín Quinn and Dublin City Council at Merrion Square. Fans can access the square from 6pm, with the event kicking off at 7pm.

On behalf of Dublin City Council, MC Des Cahill will welcome the Lord Mayor of Dublin Oisín Quinn, the victorious team and Andy Kettle Chairman of the Dublin County Board onto the stage at 7pm.

Traffic restrictions will be in place from 6am tomorrow on Merrion Square east and south, Mount Street Upper and Fitzwilliam Street Lower.

This is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event.

Dublin City Council is asking people to use public transport when travelling to and from the event and keep an eye on the weather.

This evening, Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn paid tribute to Jim Gavin’s men.

“After defeats in the semi finals in both 2006 and 2012 Dublin finally ended Mayo’s recent dominance over them in the championship to claim the ultimate prize. It’s a thrilling day for Dubs at home and abroad. It’s great to bring Sam home again for the second time in three years after lending him to Donegal last year.” said the Lord Mayor.
