SHOPPERS IN DUBLIN will soon see more street stalls around the capital after the council gave the green light to a number of new locations.

Some 17 new mobile stalls will be given approval to sell items from coffee and snacks to jewellery, caricatures and paintings.

Details of the new stalls are set out in new bye-laws published by Dublin City Council, which is currently inviting applications for the licenses for each of the locations.

The stalls will mostly be in the city centre – where others are already in place on Liffey Street, O’Connell Bridge and Merrion Square among other locations.

However, licenses will also be granted for vendors at the Triangle in Ranelagh and on Sandymount promenade.

The most expensive spots on offer are for coffee stalls at the IFSC and Heuston Station, and late-night food vendors on Fleet Street in Temple Bar and Harcourt Street. Each spot commands a rent of €6,000 a year.

An artist on the Liffey boardwalk, meanwhile, will pay just €500 annually, while a jewellery or craft stand on Barnardo Square faces rent of €5,000.

Currently the most expensive street stall location is that held by flower vendors at the top of Grafton Street, who pay €8,000 a year for their patch.
