Dundon ex-girlfriend avoids jail over intimidating witness

April Collins, the former girlfriend of Ger Dundon, is sentenced after being found guilty of intimidating a witness in a key case.

THE FORMER GIRLFRIEND of convicted Limerick criminal Ger Dundon has been given a three-year suspended jail sentence after being found guilty of intimidating a relative of a key witness in the trial of her ex, her father and her brother.

April Collins, 24, had pleaded guilty to the offence earlier this month at a sitting of Limerick Circuit Court.

The victim of the intimidation had been a relative of a witness in a case against eight men involved in organised crime in the city, which included Ger Dundon from the well-known Dundon family.

Witness Mark Heffernan, the Limerick Leader reported, was the only witness in the case of the eight men.

A previous hearing of the court had heard how Collins, with an address at Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, was pushing a child’s pram when she followed Collins into Penney’s on O’Connell St in the city centre, where a confrontation is alleged to have occurred.

“Wait ’til you see the beating she is going to get,” the Irish Daily Mirror importing Collins is alleged to have said to others within earshot of the victim.

Judge Carroll Moran commented that interference and intimidation went to ‘the very fabric of the justice system’, and handed down a three-year suspended sentence.
