A 40-foot motor cruiser runs aground in the early hours off the coast of Co Kerry, leaving eight requiring rescue.

EIGHT PEOPLE had to be rescued from a motor yacht off the coast of Co Kerry overnight after it ran aground.

RTÉ reports that the 40-foot motor cruiser was sailing north of Tralee Bay when it ran into trouble and ultimately came aground shortly before 1am off Mucklagh Beg.

Lifeboat crews based in nearby Fenit were despatched to the scene, where all eight passengers were taken ashore.

The motor yacht, however, was extensively damaged in the incident.
