Elderly woman dies after three-car collision near Galway village

Three cars collided on the R446 near the village of Kilreekil at around 5pm this evening.

A WOMAN IN her 80s has died after a three-car collision near a Galway village earlier this evening.

Three cars collided on the R446 near the village of Kilreekil at around 5pm this evening. The woman was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second car, a woman in her 30s, was taken by ambulance to University College Hospital Galway where her injuries are not said to be life threatening.

The occupants of the third car were not in need of hospital treatment, gardaí said.

The road is currently closed pending an invesitigation by a garda forensics team and investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
