Biography

Durkan has been a TD since first elected in 1981, briefly losing his seat in February 1982 and regaining it in November of that year. He has been re-elected in every election since. He is a former Minister of State for Social Welfare and is a former party Chief Whip. He has been a Fine Gael spokesperson on numerous issues including health, food, trade and human rights.
