Biography

Byrne has been a TD since first elected in the 2007 general election. She is Minister of State for Health Promotion and the National Drugs Strategy. She is the former Minister of State for Communities and the National Drugs Strategy. She was first elected to Dublin City Council in 1999. She was Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2005 to 2006. She lives in Inchicore.

Why should someone vote for you?

I have worked all my life for my community and I remain committed to ensuring that the people of Dublin South Central have a strong voice in government.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

The development of sustainable communities that are properly supported by local services, amenities, affordable housing, and sensible planning which takes into consideration the real needs and concerns of the area.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

I intend to progress and deliver on key recommendations set out in the scoping report by retired assistant Garda Commissioner, Dr Jack Nolan, on Inchicore and Kilmainham.
