Biography

Zappone became a Senator in 2011 and was elected to the Dáil in the 2016 general election. She is a former commissioner with the Irish Human Rights Commission and former CEO of the National Women's Council of Ireland. She is a founding member of Marriage Equality, a group that advocated for the constitutional right to marry for same-sex couples from 2005 until the successful referendum in 2015.
