Elite troops help in Mexico's drug war... but some switch sides

They’re supposed to be fighting against the drug traffickers but some soldiers are joining them instead.

AN ELITE GUATEMALAN army unit is helping to fight drug trafficking to Mexico but some of them are defecting to drug gangs in border regions, creating new problems.

Al Jazeera reports that the feared Kaibiles are infamous for their role in killing civilians during Guatemala’s civil war but since helping to fight drug trafficking over the country’s border into Mexico, the unit itself has been hit by civil war.

Renegade and retired members of the unit are being recruited by the Zetas drugs gang particularly along border regions and are training the Zetas in military warfare and use of explosives.
