Elmo puppeteer resigns in the wake of sex allegations

Kevin Clash was accused of being involved in an under-age relationship, but the allegations were then recanted.

KEVIN CLASH, THE man who has been performing as Elmo on Sesame Street for more than 25 years has resigned.

His resignation comes after allegations of underage sex were made against him, but then recanted.

In a statement Sesame Workshop has said that the “controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life became a distraction that none of us want”, according to the New York Times.

The allegations were made early last week, but were later taken back. Clash had taken a leave of absence from Sesame Street in order to deal with the incident and understudies had been taking his place.

It has been reported that Clash reached a settlement with his accuser, while the gossip website TMZ claims that there are further allegations against the actor.
