17-year-old teenager killed in single vehicle crash in Sligo

The accident happened at Enniscrone in the western county when a van the young man was travelling in collided with a wall.

A 17-YEAR-OLD teenage male has died following an overnight road traffic accident in Co Sligo.

The collision happened at roughly 1.45am this morning on Pier Road, Enniscrone.

The 17-year-old was travelling as passenger in a van, driven by an 18-year-old man, when the van collided with a wall.

The young man was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to a mortuary in nearby Sligo town.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the accident.

The scene of the accident remains closed pending a forensic Garda examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information to contact them at Ballymote Garda Station on 071 9189500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or at any Garda station.
