Man in his 40s arrested in connection to theft of ESB cables

A number of planned searches were carried out in Leixlip.

A MAN IN his 40s has been arrested in connection to the theft of overhead ESB cables.

He was arrested during a number of planned searches in residences in the Leixlip area of Kildare yesterday morning.

Gardaí from the Portlaoise and Kilkenny detective units, eastern regional unit and local units were involved in the searches of three properties.

A number of items were also seized for examination.

The man was brought to Portlaoise Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was released without charge last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The investigation is ongoing.
