Escaped prisoner not located by authorities

The man absconded from custody while being treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick yesterday.

A PRISONER WHO escaped from custody yesterday while being treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick has not yet been located by the authorities.

The man, 25, was serving an 18-month sentence for burglary and was not due to be released until next May, a prison source told TheJournal.ie.

The man absconded after a nurse removed his handcuffs in order to treat him at the hospital. He was chased by two prison officers, but managed to escape.

Gardaí confirmed today that the prisoner had not yet been tracked down but said that investigations are continuing.
