This isn't a winning Euromillions syndicate... but you get the idea Shutterstock/Andresr

The biggest Euromillions jackpot this year is up for grabs this evening

Someone has to win, right?

TONIGHT PEOPLE ACROSS Europe will be crossing fingers, toes and everything else in the hope of scooping the massive Euromillions jackpot on offer.

The €140 million prize is the biggest one this year and has been rolling over since 6 November.

Currently the largest sum ever taken home by an Irish winner was €115 million, by Dolores McNamara from Limerick back in 2005.

Anyone thinking of buying a ticket for tonight’s draw may be surprised to learn that there have only been seven jackpot winners in Ireland since the prize was launched back in 2004.

Last September a syndicate from Dublin took home €86.7 million. Another big win came in June 2013, when a winning ticket worth €94 million was sold in Dublin 9.

Anyone looking to get involved in this evening can do so by purchasing a ticket from a Lotto agent or by visiting Lottery.ie.

Individuals are advised to sign the back of their ticket once they purchase it to ensure there is no legal dispute later on about ownership.

The deadline for buying a ticket is 7.30pm this evening.
