Last night's €72 million Euromillions jackpot was won - in the UK

In Ireland, there were no winners of the top three prizes.

A LUCKY WINNER in the UK is £61.1 million (€72 million) richer today after scooping the Euromillions jackpot.

The winning numbers were 1, 21, 26, 40 and 50, the lucky stars were 2 and 4.

In Ireland, there were no winners of the top three prizes, though two people did match four numbers and both lucky stars, claiming a prize of €4,365.

In total, Irish players won just under €450,000 last night.

There was also no Irish winner of the €500,000 plus draw.

The UK winner becomes the country’s fourth jackpot winner this year, but is nowhere near the largest jackpot won there. That is the £161 million (€190 million) won by North Ayrshire couple Chris and Colin Weir in 2011.

The Euromillions is played in nine countries: the UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
