The Evening Fix...now with added iSorry

Some of the things we learned, loved and shared today.

HERE ARE THE things you need to know as we round off the day in three easy steps.

THINGS WE LEARNED

#SHOOTINGS: In what is the third so-called gangland killing this week, a man in his 30s has been shot dead in Ballyfermot, Dublin. The victim – a convicted drug dealer – had known his life was in danger.

#CRIME: The news of the shooting came as the CSO revealed that crime rates in Ireland are falling – except when it comes to burglaries, kidnappings and fraud offences.

#EUROZONE PROBLEMS: Another week and another set of problems for eurozone countries. After a fresh round of stress tests, Spain has been told its banks may need a €60 billion bailout, while France’s president Francois Hollande unveiled the country’s toughest ever package of tax rises and spending cuts.

#TEENAGE FEUD: A London community is in shock today after a 14-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenage boy.

#iSORRY: CEO Tim Cook is determined to do everything to make Apple Maps better. But in the meantime, he’s given customers some alternative options.

#OM NOM NOM: There was some great news for two Irish restaurants today as they were awarded the much-coveted Michelin Stars for the first time, bringing Ireland’s list of celebrated restaurants to eight.

THINGS WE LOVED:

  • Is this shot of Mohamed Al-Fayed, Shane ‘the tatted one from Boyzone’ Lynch and two parrots the best thing you’ve seen today? Well there’s more where that came from in our Friday slideshow.
  • Speaking of former celebrities, Tara Reid has been trying to happen again by hanging out with Jedward. She was obviously getting solid advice from Louis Walsh but now she’s gone and taken the whole thing a step further…by dating their (its?) brother. Check out Buzzfeed’s relationship explainer (warning: it may read like that family tree at the beginning of Wuthering Heights).

THINGS WE SHARED

  • Even for those who don’t know their Dr. Zaius’ from their Cornelius’, IGN’s timeline of the mysterious pasts, alternate realities and possible futures that the pantheon of science-fiction movies has given us is a great way to while away a few Friday evening minutes.
  • A new video has just surfaced of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey rapping. Seems fair, yeah? Lindsay Lohan is with them.
