The explosive device, which was found under a parked car, was made safe by an Army bomb disposal team.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for information after a viable and dangerous explosive device was found under a parked car in Cork.

The device was discovered at around 1am on Thursday morning on the Old Youghal Road. Houses in the surrounding area had to be evacuated for several hours while an Army bomb disposal team investigated.

The device was made safe after a number of hours.

They also wish to speak to a man who made a number of calls to Anglsea Street Garda station on the emergency line in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda station on 021-455 8510 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
