Viable explosive device found in Finglas

The Improvised Explosive Device was found in a residential area in Finglas during the night.

AN ARMY BOMB disposal team has made safe a viable explosive device found in a housing estate in Finglas during the night.

The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found just after midnight on Plunkett Drive on Dublin’s northside. Local residents had to be evacuated to a safe location while the area was cordoned off by Gardaí.

The explosive device was made safe at the scene by the bomb disposal team without the need for a controlled explosion. The remnants of the device were then brought to a secure military location for further examination before being handed over to Gardaí.

The scene was declared safe at 1.35am and residents were allowed back into their homes.

This is the 93rd viable IED dealt with by an Army bomb disposal team so far this year.
