Explosives made safe in Cork

An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a small quantity of explosives and detonators found in Bandon earlier today.

OLD COMMERCIAL EXPLOSIVES and detonators were made safe by an Army Bomb Disposal Team outside Bandon in County Cork this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to a rural house in Gaggan, just off the N71, after a request by the Gardaí.

The team said it removed a small quantity of old commerical explosives and a number of detonators from an outhouse. They were taken to a different location and made safe by a controlled explosion.

The operation began at 1.15pm and the area was declared safe by 3pm.
