FACEBOOK HAS PASSED the one billion users mark – making it one of the world’s largest organisations, and more populous than all but two countries on Earth.
Mark Zuckerberg said – predictably, through a status update to his Facebook profile – that the site passed the billion-user barrier in the early hours this morning.
“If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you,” the site’s 28-year-old chief executive and co-founder wrote.
“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.”
He added: “I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”
Perhaps equally predictably, the most ‘Liked’ comment on Zuckerberg’s update was a comment reading: “Change the timeline.”
Shares in the social network were trading at $22 in pre-market trading, up 0.8 per cent on yesterday’s closing price, and making the site worth a total of $46.77 billion – or about €36.12 per active user.
