9,000 families to lose one-parent payment from today

Changes to the plan were announced two years ago.

OVER 9,000 FAMILIES will lose their One-Parent Family Payment today, as the criteria for eligibility changes.

Changes to the payment were announced two years ago, with around 60,000 people set to be taken off the payment over time.

The changes relate to the age of children and the time the payment began.

It has been said that the reforms are designed to get lone parents into work, but those who have relied on the payment will be offered support by the Department of Social Protection.

Jobseekers Allowance, Family Income Supplement Payment and Carer’s Allowance will be used to cover those who were reliant on the payment.
