7 kid-friendly events to check out this weekend - from Bosco to baby raves

Plus plenty of chances to see The Snowman.

DUBLIN

Bosco’s Magical Christmas: Paula Lambert is bringing Bosco and all of his Christmas cheer to the Axis Theatre in Ballymun this Sunday. Expect to torture your children with ‘I loved this guy when I was a kid’ for the duration of the show.

The Snowman: It’s not Christmas without a screening of The Snowman and this weekend at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, they’re showing the film – accompanied by Howard Blake’s score played live by the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s going to be magic.

Suits: The whole family. Time: 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm (Saturday) and 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm (Sunday). Tickets: from €16. Find out more here.

National Concert Hall Christmas Party: The National Concert Hall are also showing The Snowman this weekend, but with the added bonus of live host Simon Delaney careening through the aisles with musical helpers. Expect Nutcrackers marching between the rows and the NCH orchestra accompanying the movie.

GALWAY

Christmas Concert: The Town Hall Theatre in Galway is getting in on the action on Saturday with (yet another) screening of The Snowman featuring conductors Peter Berrill, Joanne Cater, Michael Dooley and John Fleming.

MAYO

Christmas Family Fun at the National Museum: With choral performances, a Christmas-themed activity trail and Christmas decoration workshops lined up, the National Museum (Country Life) in Mayo has plenty to entertain families this weekend. Oh, and guess which film they’re screening? Yup, it’s The Snowman again.

BELFAST

Baby Rave: Bring your energetic little ones to a festive baby rave at Belfast’s Aurora Studios this Saturday. There’ll be face painting, tea and coffee and loads of banging tunes.

Rudolph Saves Christmas: Dunamais Arts Centre is hosting this cheery, super festive show this Saturday, marking the official countdown to the big day on the 25th.
