6 get-up-and-go events for active kids around Ireland - from colour runs to sports days

Here’s what’s on this weekend and beyond for littlies who need to burn off some energy.

DUBLIN 

Parkrun and Junior Parkrun: Every Saturday, all over the country families come together for a morning run in their local park as part of the Parkrun Ireland initiative. Participants can run or walk the 5k course. This is a great way for the family to get fitter and kick off a love of running together.

Moscow State Circus: Ideal for anyone with a fascination with acrobatics, the world’s most agile circus performers are taking up residence at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham until Sunday. Expect the spectacular, and also for your child to want to run away and join the circus afterwards.

Suits: The whole family. When: Until Sun Sept 16, 5pm and 8pm. Cost: €15 (adults), €10 (children). Find out more here.

Kilmainham Goodbye Summer Street Party: Residents and kids of all ages are welcome at a September street feast outside the Royal Oak pub this Saturday afternoon, with music, face painting and lots of chat. There’ll be a talk from Ellie Kisyombe of Our Table and fundraising for people in direct provision in Ireland too. Come along – and bring a plate of food to add to the table.

Family SportFest: Here’s one event that’ll be worth the few weeks wait. Family SportFest returns to the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus on September 30, giving families a chance to try all kinds of sports, meet coaches and sports stars from all disciplines and find out all about local sports in your area. There’ll be an inflatable fun zone too.

MEATH

Inflatable Colour Run: An incredible day out for the whole family at Fairyhouse Racecourse. Come dressed in white and bounce, run or walk around the course made from giant inflatables, getting splashed with coloured water along the way.

NATIONWIDE

Clean Coast Big Clean: Show your local strand or shoreline some love. This weekend, Clean Coast is running beach clean-ups all over the country. Register with the website to get your free clean up kit, and do your bit to help the environment by cleaning up your local beach.
