8 family-friendly Culture Night events that the kids will love

Culture Night 2017 kicks off around the country this Friday. Here’s our pick of the events for kids.

ON FRIDAY NIGHT, galleries, theatres and museums around the country are throwing open their doors and hosting events free, all in the name of Culture Night. Here’s our pick of the best family-friendly events taking place across Ireland.

DUBLIN

Storytelling At Chester Beatty Library: This family-friendly story session will focus on tales of kings, dragons and princesses, all battling between good and evil. Follow the session with a free guided tour of the museum, and pick up a free family drawing pack afterwards.

Dance Workshops: The Dance Theatre of Ireland in Dun Laoghaire is hosting a night of free taster workshops all night on Friday, aimed at the whole family. Choose from hip-hop, modern and contemporary dance and Zumba.

Dublinia: Dublinia is hosting four exciting exhibitions at the moment, all of which can be experienced for free on Friday. Visit Viking and Medieval Dublin, and allow your smallies to see Dublin from a whole new perspective.

Gallery Zozimus: Artists Mary Conroy and Kate O’Kelly will be on hand at Zozimus Gallery to help the whole family create 3D geometric shapes that everyone can decorate and take home.

CLARE

Flotsam and Jetsam Family Art Workshop: Artist Marianne Slevin is on hand tonight at the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon to turn treasures collected from the beach into incredible art. She’ll have lots of shells and stones on the evening, but bring your own treasures along too!

KILDARE

Family Film Night: The Kildare Town Library will be showing The Secret of Kells tonight, a gorgeous animation starring Brendan Gleeson. This is a fantastic way to introduce the kids into some of our more ancient history.

Family Genealogy Evening: Trace the family roots at Blarney Library where expert genealogists will be on hand to help you follow your own family tree.

McCormack Puppet Show: McCormack Puppets are hosting a double bill of puppetry amazingness at the Edenderry Library tonight, bringing Beauty and The Beast and the tale of Punch and Judy to the stage.
