Family of Irish man missing in India appeal for help

Dubliner Jonathan Spollen, 28, was last heard from on February 3.

THE FAMILY OF an Irish man who has gone missing in India have appealed for help finding him.

Jonathan Spollen, a writer and journalist from Ranelagh in Dublin, last contacted his family on February 3 from the Rishikesh area in northern India. He was due to leave India by February 21, when his visa expired.

The 28-year-old was an experienced traveller and had been in the country since late last year.

When he last called home he was intending to set out on a trek, his mother Lynda Spollen told TheJournal.ie.

“He said he was going for two and a half weeks, and was going on his own,” Lynda Spollen said. Jonathan told her he would check his phone at intervals, and had previously kept in touch very regularly.

However, nothing has been heard from him since then. Jonathan’s father David Green is now in India assisting with the search effort, and friends and family are raising awareness through social media.

“Everyone travels nowadays so we’re just hoping that somebody will be the one to find him,” Lynda Spollen said.

Jonathan is described as being 6ft 1in tall, of thin build with long hair and a beard.

Anyone with information is asked to contact David Green on +91 880 270 8618, police on +91 135 243 0228, or email davidgreen100@xtra.co.nz or lyndaspollen@hotmail.com.
