The search for Ireland's top biscuit is at an end...

But is a Kit Kat really a biscuit we hear you cry…

IRELAND IS A nation of biscuit lovers – and they’re the source of many a household debate right around the time of the big shop each week.

Helpfully for us, Tesco Ireland has run the numbers and established the country’s most popular biscuits in 2015. So in descending order:

10. Jacob’s Mikado

The classic mallow/jam/biscuit combo that is the Mikado is loved across the land.

It didn’t make the cut last year, so it’s been a good 2015 for the Mikado.

9. Bourbon creams

For the people that refuse to have anything but chocolate in their biscuit, there’s bourbons.

8.  Tesco Value digestives

Like regular digestives… but better value.

7.  Rich Tea

It can barely survive a single dunk in tea, but the delicate Rich Tea is riding high in the nation’s affections.

6.  McVities digestives

The standard bearer for all biscuits to work from.

5. Cadbury Snack shortcake biscuit

The only Snack colour to make the top 10 – this once and for all proves that the yellow is Ireland’s favourite. No more debate.

4. Oreo vanilla

What would have once been considered a quintessentially American snack, the Oreo is winning people over from coast to coast.

3.  Kit Kat Two Finger

A school lunch box favourite – that we all just continued eating into adulthood.

Not to be confused with its four-fingered brethren – that does not make the cut.

2.  Chocolate chip cookies

Just pipped to the top spot but make no mistake - chocolate chip cookies are on the rise.

1. Milk chocolate digestives

The champ.

It was top last year and it’s retained its crown as Ireland’s favourite biscuit in 2015.

It has that perfect blend of chocolate and digestive that makes it ideal for tea-dipping and it’s absolutely delish as a standalone too. The complete package.

Other interesting biscuit data revealed that Ginger Nuts were amongst the top five biscuits in Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo. The rest of the country clearly didn’t share the love for them, and they failed to make the cut.

What’s your favourite biscuit? Which of these are imposters that don’t deserve a place anywhere near the country’s top 10? Let us know in the comments.
