Woman in her 60s killed in Monaghan road collision

The fatal crash occurred on the R162 at Feragh at about 5pm yesterday afternoon.

A WOMAN IN her 60s has died in a fatal road collision in Co Monaghan.

The crash happened at about 4.45pm yesterday afternoon at Feragh, on the Monaghan-to-Ballybay R162 road.

The woman was a passenger in a car which collided with a second vehicle, driven by a man.

The female driver of the car in which the woman was travelling, who is aged in her 40s, was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Monaghan Hospital.

The man in the other car, aged in his mid-40s, was taken to Cavan Hospital with minor injuries.

A Garda forensic examination of the scene is set to take place this morning. The road remains closed in the interim, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77201, on the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666111, or at any Garda Station.
