Man in his 90s dies after being struck by car in Fermoy supermarket car park

A woman in her 60s was taken to hospital for serious injuries, along with the driver of the car.

A MAN IN his 90s has died after being struck by a car in a supermarket carpark in Fermoy, Co Cork this morning.

The incident occured at around 11.15AM when he and another person, a woman in her 60s, were struck by the car.

The woman has been taken to Cork University Hospital. The driver of the car, a man in his 90s, has also been taken to hopital. Both have injuries which are believed to be serious.

The man who was struck by the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that the adverse weather conditions, brought on by an ongoing yellow weather warning, contributed to the accident.

Frank O’Flynn, councillor for the Fermoy Local Electoral Area, said that the incident was “tragic”.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those affected,” he said.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any pedestrians who were travelling in the environs of Courthouse Road, Fermoy Town, between 10.45am and 11.30am on Friday 18th October 2024 are asked to come forward, and any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in this area at these times are asked to make it available.
