Ferry cancelled after man tried to drive down pier but became stuck

The man had to spend the night in his car.

THE BLASKET ISLAND Ferry was cancelled this morning after a would-be camper became stuck on the pier in Dunquin, Co. Kerry.

Irish-language news site Tuairisc said the man had been hoping to camp beside the pier, but became lodged between the narrow walls and had to spend the night in his car.

He was pulled from the pedestrian walkway around noon today after a local tractor came to the rescue.

Tourists who arrived hoping to get the ferry to the island this morning were unable to access the boat and the service was cancelled, though it has since reopened.

Indeed, nobody was able to access the pier this morning as the walkway was entirely blocked.

The driver, who witnesses say was Irish, was uninjured.
