Tony Fenton is going to have a stage named after him at a music festival

The Today FM presenter passed away last month.

A STAGE AT the Killarney Festival of Music and Food is set to be named after the late DJ Tony Fenton.

‘The Tony Fenton Stage’ will be a big top marquee that will host musical acts.

Fenton had previously worked behind the scenes with the festival in a creative capacity, suggesting bands to the organisers. He also voiced radio and television adverts that were broadcast nationally.

The veteran broadcaster passed away last month at the age of 53. He had been a stalwart of Irish radio for almost thirty years.

In the last four years of his life he had faced a battle against cancer. He was inducted into Irish radio’s Hall of Fame last September.

Speaking about the decision to rename the stage, PR director for the Killarney Festival, Nicola Watkins, said:

We really miss Tony… (he) was a massive supporter of the Westport Festival of Music and Food and he was very excited about the festival’s move to Killarney this year – he told all his friends he would be there – however now he will be with us in spirit and always in our memories.

Bands and acts that will be appearing on the stage will include Father John Misty, Something Happens, Walking on Cars, Kormac’s Big Band, Mundy, Booka Brass Band, KSYRAN, David Lyttle, Gangs and Guila.

The Killarney Festival of Music and Food is set to take place on 27 and 28 June this year. It had previously taken place in Westport but has moved to Killarney in Co Kerry for the first time this year.
