FG's Bernard Allen to retire at next election

ONE OF Fine Gael’s longest-serving TDs is to step down at the next election, it has been confirmed. Fine Gael’s Bernard Allen, a TD for Cork North Central, will not seek re-election this year, citing “personal reasons”. Allen has been a TD since 1981, and served as a junior minister with special responsibility for tourism and sport between 1994 and 1997. Allen is also a former chair of the Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs, and is currently the chair of the high-profile Public Accounts Committee.
