Nick Clegg and 500 other politicians coming to Dublin for FF-organised conference

The 33rd annual conference of European liberals will be taking place in Dublin next month.

MORE THAN 500 politicians are coming to Dublin for the annual meeting of the European political party of which Fianna Fail is a member.

The three-day conference of European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR) members will be hosted by Fianna Fáil from 8 November and will be attended by local, national and European-level politicians.

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg will be among the most prominent liberal politicians attending the event. Former Danish prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, deputy chancellor of Germany Phillipp Rösler and Karolina Peake, the deputy prime minister of Czech Republic will also be attending.

Fianna Fáil has been a member of ELDR since April 2009. The liberal party has 75 MEPs and 8 members of the European Commission. It is represented in the European Parliament by the ALDE parliamentary grouping.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said it is a “privilege” to host the event, which is the largest single gathering of European liberal parties each year.

“This event provides an opportunity to further strengthen Ireland’s relationship with our European partners,” Martin said.
