She now faces a fine and up to 150 days in jail.

POLICE IN THE United States have tracked down a woman who taped a dog’s mouth shut and posted a picture of it to Facebook.

The photograph shows her dog – a brown labrador – with duct tape around its mouth.

After consultation between numerous police departments in Florida, Connecticut and North Carolina it has emerged that the incident happened in Cary, North Carolina.

It was posted to Facebook by a woman going under the alias Katie Brown, who has since been named by the City of South Daytona Police as Katharine Lemansky.

In the post she captioned the picture: “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!”

It was shared more than 30,000 times before being deleted.

Another post made by Lemansky after the first image said that the dog’s mouth had only been taped shut for a minute.

Earlier today, the South Daytona Police department, located in Florida, confirmed that Lemansky has been charged in connection with the incident.

Officials have said that the dog is now fine and has no sign of injury.

Lemansky faces a fine and potentially up to 150 days in jail for her treatment of the animal.
