Gardaí chase man through Finglas and discover two handguns in his rucksack

He is currently being detained at Finglas Garda Station.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man in Dublin this morning after a pursuit that led to the discovery of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition in his rucksack.

Gardaí from the K District Drugs Unit were on a mobile armed patrol on Casement Drive in Finglas at around 10.35pm when they witnessed a man in his 30s “acting suspiciously”.

Once approached by the gardaí, the man fled into a number of gardens where he was seen discarding a rucksack.

The man was eventually arrested and taken to Finglas Garda Station.

The rucksack was recovered close by and gardaí discovered two handguns and a quantity of ammunition.

During a search of the man, gardaí found a set of keys and following a search of the area a stolen car associated with the keys was found parked on Casement Drive.

The man is currently being detained at Finglas Garda Station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.
