Nine-year-old child and elderly woman die in house fire in Wexford

A man was also recovered from the scene and was taken to hospital in Dublin.

A NINE YEAR old girl and a woman in her 80s died in house fire in Enniscorthy, County Wexford last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire at Clohass, just outside Enniscorthy at approximately 12.30am last night.

Fatalities

The two bodies of the woman and child were recovered from the scene and taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post mortem.

A man is his 5os was injured in the blaze and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

It is believed the child’s mother and her partner discovered the fire after the returned from a night out.

It is believed the man had tried to rescue the other occupants of the house.

The house where the fire took place is in a rural setting and is not in a housing estate. The scene is being preserved for forensic investigation by the gardaí.
