Firefighters tackle blaze at Vicar Street venue in Dublin

The fire has been brought under control and gardaí said no injuries have been reported.

FIREFIGHTERS HAVE BROUGHT under control a blaze at the Vicar Street venue on Thomas Street in Dublin city centre.

The Dublin Fire Brigade said on Twitter this afternoon that the street was blocked while firefighters deal with a fire on the roof of a building.

It has since said the fire is under control with crews “damping down any hotspots”.

The fire brigade said its teams “prevented any significant spread of the fire”.

“Some crews will remain on scene for a number of hours and others will be released back to stations,” the fire brigade said on Twitter.

A statement this evening from Dublin City Council said the Eastern Regional Control Centre started taking calls for the fire just before 12 noon.

Four pumps, a turntable ladder and a district officer attended the scene.

“The fire was on a roof terrace area of the Vicar Street venue. The fire was contained to this area however the whole building was smoke logged and will suffer from water damage.

“Breathing apparatus crews fought the fire and this was supplemented by a water tower from a turntable ladder. There were no injuries. The crews left the scene just after 13.30,” the statement added.

The Vicar Street venue is located on Thomas Street in the Liberties area of the south inner city.

Road closures were in place while the fire was ongoing but they have since reopened.

A garda spokesperson said: “There have been no reports of any injuries at this time.”

Firefighters from the fire brigade headquarters, Dolphin’s Barn and Donnybrook dealt with the incident.
